in the past weeks we’ve seen:
-the Canadian government giving standing ovations to Nazi from WW2 which prompted everyone to go mask off about their nazi sympathies or apologia
-the ethnic cleansing of all of the Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan (who also denies the Armenian Genocide)
-the ongoing genocide of Palestinians by the Israeli zionist settler colonial state who’s been imposing apartheid for the past 75 years
So if you’ve ever wondered HOW fascism and nazism came to power in the past century you can also witness it now live! You may actually be regurgitating fascist propaganda right now!
It really bears emphasizing that the region of Artsakh (otherwise known as Nagorno-Karabakh) is essentially entirely Armenian, that’s why Artsakh revolted after the collapse of the Soviet Union in the first place. What’s happening in the ethnic cleansing of an entire region. Everyone who is not able to leave (~100,00 people in the areas occupied after the ceasefire) will be killed. Armenian historical and cultural sites will likely either be destroyed or revised (you can see this abundantly in Western Armenia —go to the site of an Armenian Apostolic church in Kars or Mush and it will be described as a mosque, go to the ruins of Ani and you’ll find them untended and left to rot —the greatest city of Medieval Armenia and a stop on the Silk Road neglected, eroding.)
I would like to believe that Aliyev would be content to stop with Artsakh, but he *and Erdogan* have openly described the Armenian Genocide (to the extent that they acknowledge it at all) as unfinished business. I don’t know where this ends. I pray, literally pray, close to every day that Iran or the US —hell, even Russia, for all the good they could do—meaningfully intervene before my people are wiped out or assimilated from the last shred of our ancestral homeland. But I doubt what’s actually possible.
